Caboolture local is living a healthier life with his NDIS plan
Caboolture local, John, lives with Schizophrenia and is using his National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) plan to achieve his goals of living a healthy and balanced life and increasing his independence.
Since having NDIS funding, John has been able to access the support he needs to reach his goals and enjoy everyday life.
“I enjoy cooking, and I have support workers come in twice a week to help me with food shopping, cleaning and preparing meals, and it's helped a lot.”
With support from the NDIS, John lives with his companion dog Bobbi and works three and a half days a week at the Lagoon Creek Café, where he helps prepare meals, serve customers and showcases his barista skills.
John enjoys the flexibility of his funding, because he can now participate in activities he enjoys, such as attending local social events and getting out and about.
“We [my support worker and I] go out every second Friday to the Sports Club to socialise. We have a meal and chat with the people there, and in the coming week we are going to a Bon Jovi Tribute Concert.”
John is supported on his NDIS journey by Rachael, a Local Area Coordinator (LAC) at Carers Queensland NDIS Partners in the Community Program for the Moreton Bay region.
“Rachael, my LAC has been really good and I can call her when I need to. I feel a lot happier, knowing I have this support.”
Carers Queensland can support you to find out more about the NDIS, how to apply and help you get started using with the NDIS.
