Carers Queensland, one of the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s (NDIS) Partners in the Community, is celebrating the official opening of six new offices across Queensland.

Ashmore, Logan, Eight Mile Plains, Capalaba, North Lakes and Maroochydore are Carers Queensland’s newest locations for the NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community Program.

Carers Queensland Chair, Jim Toohey, said the organisation is honoured to help deliver the most significant social reform since Medicare.

“It’s been an expansive three years with Carers Queensland, and we are excited to be part of such an important change for the whole disability sector,” Mr Toohey said.

“Carers Queensland has been providing services to people with disability for many years and has a long history of supporting carers and caring families.”

“Being part of the NDIS means a great deal to Carers Queensland and already we have seen the very positive, life-changing effects of the scheme in the lives of people with disability and their families.”

CEO of Carers Queensland, Debra Cottrell said the addition of six new offices for the NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community Program is crucial to connecting people to the supports they need to live their best life.

“Our role is to help the community understand how to access the NDIS and to facilitate the planning process for participants,” Mrs Cottrell said.

“In addition to helping people use the scheme, we work with people who don’t use the NDIS to connect with mainstream support in their area.”

“We also have a vital role to play in helping build a more accessible and inclusive community where people with disability are welcomed and valued.”

Those accessing the NDIS can have confidence in the people employed by Carers Queensland.

“We have a great deal of local and specialist knowledge and experience in the teams that will be supporting people to access and use the NDIS,” Mrs Cottrell said.

“Carers Queensland has been delivering the Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community Program since 2017 – with our teams in Toowoomba, Ipswich and Rockhampton – so we bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in providing the Partner in the Community Program to these new Service Areas.”
