Carers Queensland's response to the Regional Delivery Partners announcement

A new regional network of service providers to help carers access new and improved services from April next year was announced by the Australian Government yesterday.

Ten not-for-profit organisations will receive about $493 million over five years to establish a new network of 16 Carer Gateway service providers.

The new service delivery model designed by carers, for carers, will offer more than five times the number of services currently available.

In response to Australian Government’s Regional Delivery Partners (RDP) tender announcement, Jim Toohey, Chair of Carers Queensland commented:

“Carers Queensland welcomes the government’s announcement regarding the introduction of the new regional network of service providers to deliver new and improved services for carers from April next year.

We are, however, disappointed by the announcement that we have been unsuccessful in our tender bid.

As the peak body representing unpaid family carers in Queensland, Carers Queensland has been working to advocate for equal rights, opportunities, and enhanced outcomes for caring families over the past 30 years.

During this time, we have worked with our local communities, responding to unmet needs with care and respect, delivering a range of specialised carer, aged, and disability support services.

We recognise the opportunity this announcement presents to better position Carers Queensland for future challenges.

Moving forward, Carers Queensland acknowledges its commitment to working with caring families to improve their quality of life, and there can be no doubt, we will continue to support them during this important time.

We are dedicated to making life better.

Carers Queensland will work collaboratively with the Government for an outcome in the best interest of all caring families, and to ensure carers experience a smooth transition to the new Carer Gateway service providers.

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to our hardworking staff, to all caring families, to our local communities across Queensland, and our industry partners, for their valuable support throughout these years.”
