NDIS funds are life-changing for Tovah

Carers Queensland is helping nine-year-old Tovah Rennie in her goal of growing up to be as independent as possible and happy.

Tovah, who lives at Logan Reserve and has an intellectual disability, is utilising her National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds for Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), occupational therapy and speech therapy.

Tovah’s mum, Chenoa, said her daughter also loves the great outdoors, whether it be riding horses and quad bikes, or camping and kayaking with family.

Last year Tovah started attending equine therapy horse riding on weekends.

“She’s very excitable and energetic and goes for gold; she is always so calm with the horse,” Chenoa said.

In addition to receiving NDIS support, Tovah’s family is able to now free up their own funds for the family to pay for and explore alternate treatment such as bio-medicine.

Chenoa said her daughter is responding well to the bio-treatment which they could never afford before they had received other supports for Tovah from the NDIS.

“It has been great to be able to try different things that weren’t available before. You’d do anything to help your child get the best treatment available without sacrificing other things.”

Tovah received assistance to apply for and implement her National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funding from Carers Queensland’s NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community Program for the Brisbane region.

Carers Queensland can support you to find out more about the NDIS, to apply for funding and to help you get started with the NDIS.

If you have a disability but are not eligible for the NDIS, Carers Queensland can also help you identify and link to options for support in your community.
