Touring exhibition celebrating people with disability to launch in Rockhampton

Nov 28 2019

Rockhampton’s CBD Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 7 is getting an artistic flourish, with an exhibition celebrating works by locals with disability launching during the festivities.

This Is Me, featuring works by more than two dozen artists from across Central Queensland, will celebrate its official opening from 6 pm.

This Is Me is a touring show organised by Carers Queensland NDIS Local Area Coordination Partner in the Community, to celebrate the creativity, skill and achievements of people with disability.

The exhibition features works by artists of all ages from across the Rockhampton, Livingstone, Gladstone, Banana and Central Highlands regions, living with diverse challenges including disability, chronic illness, and mental health conditions.

“Art is a great way to express yourself, and share your view of the world,” says Carers Queensland Area Manager Lee-Anne Simpson.

“This Is Me is a way to celebrate the talents of people with disability, and make a space to appreciate different experiences, points of view, and ways of looking at the world.

“This Is Me has a wonderful mix of artworks, including paintings, pastels and drawings, photography and collages.

“The subject matter is as diverse as the artists, with landscapes, portraits, fantasy scenes, glimpses of everyday life, and abstract works.”

“We’re very grateful to all the artists who’ve loaned us works, and Carolyn and her team from InspirexArt for hosting the first stop in the exhibition’s travels.”
