No Interest Loans

Caring for a family member or friend sometimes involves unexpected costs.

Caring for a family member or friend sometimes involves unexpected costs. In partnership with Good Shepherd Microfinance, Carers Queensland offers No Interest Loans (NILS®) up to $2000 for eligible carers on low incomes.

How does NILS® work?

It is a community-based program that gives carers access to fair, safe and affordable credit for the purchase of essential goods and services such as white goods, medical services, vehicle expenses and much more.

When a borrower makes a repayment to a NILS® program, funds are then available as a loan for someone else in the community. This is called ‘circular community credit’ and this is a real demonstration of the community in action.

You can apply for a NILS loan if you:

  • Are a carer

  • Have lived at my current or previous address for at least 3 months
  • Can show that you have a capacity to repay the loan

How much can you borrow?

Carers can borrow up to $2000.
